International Financial Services Roundtable: "Diverse Approaches in a Globalized Environment," presented by the Center for Global Business and Development

November 05, 2004

This special roundtable symposium will examine different supervisory approaches and styles with respect to the regulation of international financial services. Specifically, we hope to focus discussion on the diverse approaches of:
• the European Union and individual members
• the GATS
• the NAFTA
• the Bank for International Settlements
• the United States and
• Asia—Pacific Jurisdictions

Possible substantive issues reflected in these diverse approaches will include, but are certainly not necessarily limited to:
• establishment and market entry
• risk management and supervision
• capital adequacy
• supervision of troubled and failing institutions
• antiterrorism and moneylaundering and,
• supervision of e-banking and virtual banks.

The roundtable format will feature presentation of pre-submitted papers and presentations, followed by open discussion among all the symposium participants. The proceedings of the roundtable discussion will be published in The Transnational Lawyer, our scholarly journal dedicated to transnational business law and policy.
