President Don De Rosa conferred the Order of the Pacific on retiring McGeorge Professor Phil Wile on May 19, 2007 at the University’s commencement ceremony in Stockton.

It is the highest award that can be conferred upon a retiring faculty member and recognizes someone who has made an outstanding contribution in teaching, scholarship and service to the University. Wile, who joined the faculty in 1987, has served as director of the law school’s Tax Programs and taught numerous subjects in that area over a 20-year span. DeRosa also named Wile to the emeritus faculty of the law school. Only 10 individuals have been so honored in McGeorge’s 83-year history. Wile, who may return to teach one course next spring, will receive his awards in September at the law faculty’s annual dinner.
