Pacific McGeorge won three matches at the U.S. Pacific Super Regional of the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, but was unable to advance to the international finals.

Fatima Iqbal, '11, Jessalee Samar, '10 Joel Demant, '10 and Seaton Tsai, '10, scored victories over California Western, Hawaii, and UC Hastings in the oral rounds before being knocked out of the competition, which was held from February 25-28 at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. USF and another Cal Western team qualified for next month's championship tournament in Washington, D.C.

Tsai won a gold medal for his arguments, finishing eighth of 120 pleading counsel. Samar won a silver medal in the oralist competition, finishing14th in the individual rankings.

"Our team, which had very little time to prepare for briefs and orals compared with our competitors, did an amazing and extraordinary job," said Professor Sabine Schlemmer-Schulte, the team's coach.

"We were able to do so well thanks to my co-coach, Athena Roussos, and Eric McElwain, Jarrod Wong, Jennifer Gibson, and Kojo Yelpaala, who served as judges in the rehearsal rounds on campus and advised the 2010 Jessup team in major respects," said Schelmmer-Schulte. "Miranda Carroll and Sandeep Vishwa, 2009 McGeorge graduates and 2009 Jessup team members, also offered some excellent advice."

Now in its 51st year, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world's largest moot court competition with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries. The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations.
