February 27, 2017
The McGeorge team of students Daniel Pickolick and Kyle Owen won at the National Cultural Heritage Moot Court Competition hosted by DePaul University College of Law in Chicago Feb. 24-25, 2017. This is the second year in a row that a McGeorge team won the competition.
McGeorge sent two teams to the National Cultural Heritage Law Moot Court Competition, where 28 teams from law schools from around the country participated. The second team was comprised of students Melissa Bocanegra and Tania Dominguez advanced to the quarter-final rounds. The second Best Oralist award was given to Bocanegra as well.
The 2017 Competition focused on the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA), which prohibits the taking of bald and golden eagles and eagle parts, including feathers. The competition problem addressed challenges to BGEPA brought by a Native American tribe member, including a challenge under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
