Martin, Norton Advance to Final Round in Regional NTC
March 26, 2013
The Pacific McGeorge mock trial teams performed well at the 38th Annual National Trial Competition Region 13 Competition held Feb. 7-9 in San Francisco.
Keith Hill, '96, and Thien Ho, '98, coached the Pacific McGeorge teams. Both coaches are Sacramento County Deputy District Attorneys. 14 different schools were represented in the competition.
David Norton, '13, and Courtney Martin, '13, defeated both Santa Clara and Gonzaga during two preliminary rounds. They advanced to the semi-finals where they defeated Golden Gate. The team lost to UC Berkeley during the final round of the regional competition, in a close and hotly contested trial.
Denize Kia, '13, and Amanda Iler, '14, won their first preliminary round against the University of Washington. The team was eliminated during the second preliminary round, in a 2-1 split decision, by the same UC Berkeley team that defeated Norton and Martin.
This competition is among the most difficult that Pacific McGeorge competes in all year. Each team is required to prepare the case and present a trial, first representing the prosecution, and then they must switch sides and represent the defense.
"I cannot tell you how impressed I was with these four students," said Keith Hill, '96, the team's coach. "They gave everything they had, and could not have represented McGeorge any better!"
