Highly Ranked in International Law Third Year in a Row

Once again, Pacific McGeorge's international program has been recognized among the best in the United States. This marks three years in a row, and seven of the last nine years, in which the U.S. News survey of faculty teaching in the international law area ranked Pacific McGeorge among the elite group of law schools having the top international law programs in the United States.

Pacific McGeorge's program is built around a philosophy that does not see international and non-U.S. law as exotic and relevant only for those who might wish to live abroad. Rather, it is built around recognition that we live in era of increasing globalization. Especially in a state like California, with the importance of international trade to the 8th largest economy in the world and an increasingly diverse immigrant population, the local lawyer must become the internationally and interculturally aware lawyer.

Reflecting this philosophy, international and intercultural awareness pervades Pacific McGeorge. Pacific McGeorge is distinctive in having a majority of the faculty undertake significant teaching and scholarship on international topics. The Pacific McGeorge faculty developed the pioneering Global Issues Book Series to introduce law students at Pacific McGeorge and law schools throughout the country to the international law issues that domestic lawyers will increasingly face in an era of growing globalization. Around the world, from Latin America, to Europe, to Africa, to our multi-million dollar USAID funded educate-the-educators program in China, Pacific McGeorge faculty has engaged in efforts to develop the legal infrastructure and rule of law necessary for all nations to participate in the global economy.

Pacific McGeorge students have opportunities to study and to do legal work abroad and we strive to ensure that students gain through these experiences the ability to deal effectively with persons from other legal and broader cultures. Yet, students need not venture outside Pacific McGeorge's location in California's capital to experience the impact of the international on the local practice of law. Pacific McGeorge's Global Center brings to our campus conferences with leading legal experts from around the world, as well as distinguished individual speakers as part of our international jurists series. Pacific McGeorge alumni work all over the nation and the world in a variety of general and specialized legal practices, and their Pacific McGeorge education prepared them well for the international issues that increasingly impact legal practice everywhere.
