Las Vegas attorney George Foley Jr., ’80, has been chosen to fill a newly created U.S. Magistrate judge position in Nevada.

He will join fellow alumnus Robert F. Johnston, ’77, in June as one of four magistrates in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Nevada. Foley has been a principal in the firm of Pearson, Patton, Shea, Foley & Kurtz since 1986. He has served on the State Bar of Nevada Disciplinary Board and its Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics and Election Practices, in addition to being a member of the Nevada Board of Bar Examiners. Magistrates issue search warrants, arrest warrants and summons, preside over pretrial hearings and motions and handle misdemeanor cases. Magistrates are chosen by district court judges and serve eight-year terms.
