A Message to the University Community on the Shooting at Northern Illinois University

February 15, 2008

Tags: Business & Community, 2008

Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, faculty and staff of Northern Illinois University, and their families as they cope with the terrible event which occurred on February 14. It is possible that members of the Pacific community are connected in various ways to the Northern Illinois campus. Please know that the Chaplain, Counseling Services, and the Employee Assistance Program are available to anyone who might be seeking support.

An interfaith service honoring those who were affected by this event will be held in the Morris Chapel on the Stockton campus at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 19. Immediately afterward there will be a gathering in the Kirkbride Room for those who would like to discuss the incident.

I would like to remind the University community that our primary mode of communication in a critical emergency is the PacificCONNECT system. I encourage everyone who has not registered to do so. Also, the University’s emergency response team will examine this incident as part of its ongoing review of our response plans.

As the details of this sad event unfold, our hearts go out to the victims and their families at Northern Illinois University.
