Summary Bio

Nathan Barankin is well known within the Sacramento area. Currently he is the Chief Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice. He most recently served as Chief of Staff for Attorney General Kamala D. Harris.  Before this position, Barankin was the Communications Director and a judiciary consultant for Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg. Prior to this position, Barankin ran the Department of Communications under former Attorney General Bill Lockyer. He spent 10 years with Lockyer and then Jerry Brown while in the Attorney General's office.

Prior to Lockyer's election as Attorney General, Barankin served as a policy advisor, etc. for then Senate President pro Tempore Bill Lockyer.  Before attending the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Barankin attended UC Davis where he received a bachelor's in Political Science and History.
