Summary Bio
Nathan Barankin is well known within the Sacramento area. Currently he is the Acting Chief Deputy Attorney General for the Attorney General in the Government Law Section based in Sacramento. He most recently served as Chief of Staff in the same department. Before this position, he ran the communications department and served as a judiciary consultant to senate president pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg. Prior to this position, Barankin ran the Department of Communications under former Attorney General Bill Lockyer while earning his law degree at the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He spent 10 years under Lockyer and then Jerry Brown before joining the attorney general's office.
Before overseeing the Department of Justice press office, Barankin was a policy adviser on judiciary and public safety issues, and as a legislative director for Lockyer. Before attending the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Barankin attended UC Davis where he received a bachelor's in Political Science and History.
