Melissa Meth

Deputy Attorney General

Bio

Melissa Meth recently joined the California Attorney General’s office as a Deputy Attorney General handling criminal appeals. Prior to joining the AG’s office, Melissa was an associate at Reed Smith specializing in insurance coverage matters. She began her legal career serving as a law clerk to the Hon. Dana M. Sabraw in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

Melissa Meth holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles and a J.D., cum laude, from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific.

Melissa began her law career as a law clerk to the Honorable Dana M. Sabraw in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. As a law clerk, Melissa assisted the Court on a variety of civil litigation matters.

Following her clerkship, Melissa joined Reed Smith as an associate in the Insurance Recovery practice group. In that role, Melissa represented corporate policyholders in disputes against their insurance companies. Melissa worked on several significant matters, including representing leading multinational mortgage lenders and servicers in litigation against several mortgage insurers seeking to recover in excess of $100 million in mortgage insurance proceeds.

After seven years practicing in the realm of civil litigation, Melissa decided to try her hand at criminal law. She joined the California Attorney General’s office in the Appeals, Writs and Trials section. As a Deputy Attorney General, Melissa drafts respondent’s briefs and conducts oral argument in the California Courts of Appeal.

Melissa credits her legal education at McGeorge with her successful career to date. In order to give back, Melissa joined the Alumni Association Board in 2016 and is working to increase the profile of McGeorge in the Bay Area.
