Chief Prosecutor for the region of Sacatepéquez, Antigua, Guatemala


Manuel Vásquez Vicente has been a prosecutor in Guatemala for nearly a decade and is currently the Chief Prosecutor for the region of Sacatepéquez, Antigua Guatemala. From 2010-2012, he led the Unit on Human Rights and War Crimes of Guatemala’s Prosecutor’s Office at a time when Guatemala pursued aggressively some of the most important wartime trials in domestic courts. Prof. Vásquez earned his law degree at the University of San Carlos in Guatemala, his masters in human rights law for the University of Rafael Landívar, and his SJD from the University Mariano Gálvez also in Guatemala City. During Summer 2013, he will co-teach the course on Comparative Legal Perspectives in the America with a focus on criminal justice reforms in Guatemala to address impunity and the wartime trials.
