Professor Joseph Taylor taught Trial Advocacy for 22 years and he now serves as a Senior Advisor in McGeorge's Focused Decisions Program, a program that offers trial attorneys the opportunity to pre-try their jury trials before a representative jury in order to improve the actual trial presentation. He served as a prosecuting attorney for 22 years in both the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office and the Ventura District Attorney’s Office. He was a co-founder of the California District Attorneys Association and was the California State Prosecutor of the Year, 1982-83. He then served as the Riverside County Public Defender for five years. He has authored or co-authored thirteen trial practice case files, eleven of which have been published by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) and Lexis Nexus. One of the case files was based on the controversial suicide ruling in the death of rock star Kurt Cobain. He has served as a pro-tem judge on the Sacramento County Superior Court, and he was elected as McGeorge Professor of the Year in 2004.
