Full Profile

Jill Schubert was literally raised in the legal profession. "My mom is an attorney, so I grew up working in her practice."

While Schubert always thought about becoming an attorney, she also loved psychology. After completing her undergraduate degrees in psychology and religion from Baylor University in 2009, she spent two years exploring career options by working with both psychologists and attorneys.  Since analytical thinking, strategy and legal writing appealed to her most, she "ultimately decided law was the right path."

As a Sacramento native, Schubert chose McGeorge not only because she wanted to stay close to family but also for its value. "I received a great education, had an amazing judicial externship experience, and developed lasting relationships with legal professionals in our area that led to a job offer prior to graduation." She also liked that McGeorge had an evening program, allowing her to work during the day. That, in addition to the generous scholarships she was offered, allowed her to graduate with very few student loans. "When I look at what I've accomplished, I am so glad I chose McGeorge over other law schools in the area."

As an employment litigation attorney at Porter Scott, Schubert specializes in cases defending employers such as the County of Sacramento, Dignity Health, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento in discrimination, harassment, and retaliation actions.  In addition to learning the law, she feels that McGeorge's focus on practical skills helped her to be practice ready right away both as a law clerk and as an attorney.  She appreciates the oral advocacy and practical writing experience she gained from her professors. In fact, mentorship tops Schubert's list of experience gained from McGeorge. "My most cherished memories are of professors taking time to mentor me.  Many professors took a genuine interest in my career, spent time discovering my strengths as an attorney, and called and wrote letters of recommendation to get me where I am today. I am profoundly grateful for the impact each of these individuals had on my life."

Her advice to incoming law students would be to capitalize on taking advantage of McGeorge's practical experiences and mentorship from the professors. "Take advantage of opportunities to work in the field as a law clerk or judicial extern and give your supervisors in those positions 110%. If professors and mentors see you putting forth your best effort, they will reciprocate."

Schubert looks forward to perfecting her craft as a trial attorney in employment law.  "I enjoy the strategy of litigation and coming to work each day to find new, creative ways to solve my clients' problems. I value the ability to make a very concrete difference to my clients and their businesses on a daily basis and look forward to many years growing my practice at Porter Scott.  Feel free to reach me at"
