Michelle Nam, Criminal Defense Attorney, The Bronx Defenders
Area of Practice: Criminal Defense
Year Graduated: 2014
Michelle's interest in law school began her senior year at UCSB, when she took a seminar taught by an international human rights attorney. "My professor inspired me to pursue law to bring justice for those who are marginalized by society," Michelle says. She committed herself to a career in public interest law after graduating from UC Santa Barbara. After completing her degree at McGeorge, she was hired with The Bronx Defenders in New York City.
At McGeorge, Michelle worked as an immigration law clerk for the non-profit organization, Opening Doors, offering immigration legal services and case management services to low-income victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. She was also a student-teacher with the McGeorge Street Law Program, where she taught criminal law and trial advocacy to high school students, and also led them in a mock trial.
Michelle also interned at the Federal Defender's Office for the Eastern District of California, and then served as a student attorney with the McGeorge Federal Defender Clinic.
