Summer Abroad Programs
Broaden your law school experience by taking advantage of one of Pacific McGeorge's unique summer programs. Opportunities exist to gain international perspective and insight by not only taking classes, but also by participating in field placements and practicums. Use credits earned through a Summer Abroad practicum or field placement towards meeting your Advanced Lawyering Curriculum requirement. Some possibilities:
- Study side-by-side with Ugandan law students in a Law and Development Practicum in Kampala.
- Contribute to the development of the legal infrastructure of the Ugandan justice system by working on a project in a court or legal office.
- Participate in a bilingual field placement in Latin America.
- Take substantive law classes taught in Spanish and English in Antigua, Guatemala.
- Learn from European and American faculty in a long-standing program on International Studies in Salzburg, Austria.

The Inter-American Summer Program in Guatemala is a truly bilingual and inter-cultural approach to legal education. It offers substantive law classes about Latin America taught in Spanish and English as well as bilingual field placements. It allows students the opportunity to study with Latin American students. Program participants will gain professional legal and inter-cultural experience useful in the practice of law in Latin America or to work with Latino issues and clients in the United States.
Students with basic Spanish language proficiency may also participate in the program by enrolling in a substantive law class taught in English as well as a Spanish language course.

Salzburg, Austria has been the site of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law annual Summer Program on International Legal Studies since 1974. The three-week program in Salzburg offers international and comparative law courses in public and commercial law fields. Courses are taught by European and American faculty.

Pacific McGeorge is offering an exciting intercultural legal experience in Kampala, Uganda. Students may enroll in the Law & Development Practicum, or a Field Placement, or both. In the Practicum, students will spend three weeks working on projects in a court or legal office. Ugandan law students will study with the U.S. students. The field placements and practicum are supported by the International Law Institute-African Centre for Legal Excellence (ILI-ACLE). Through the program, students will gain an invaluable inter-cultural experience and contribute to the development of the legal infrastructure of the Ugandan justice system.
Semester Abroad Exchange Programs
Add a true international dimension to your J.D. program by participating in a Semester Abroad Exchange Program, spending a semester studying law at a university in another country. Pacific McGeorge currently has exchange agreements with six different universities:
- University of Salzburg Faculty of Law | Austria
- Catholic University of Louvain | Belgium
- University of Copenhagen | Denmark
- Bucerius Law School | Hamburg, Germany
Approved classes taken at these universities will qualify for credit towards your J.D. degree. Some of these universities teach a full array of courses in English; others require proficiency in the local language.
