Public Service Loan Forgiveness Video

Pacific McGeorge recently hosted a presentation by Equal Justice Works, a national non-profit organization to promote student loan forgiveness programs for graduates who go into public interest law. Under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, qualifying public service employment may entitle attorneys to student loan forgiveness.

Heather Jarvis, Senior Program Manager for Law School Advocacy at Equal Justice Works, recently presented essential information on this federal student loan forgiveness law. Her advocacy efforts have contributed to its enactment.

Ms. Jarvis also serves as Vice Chair of the ABA Section of Legal education’s Committee on Government Relations and Student Financial Affairs. She authored Equal Justice Works’ 2006 study Financing the Future, Responses to the Rising Debt of Law Students. She earned her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1998.

Founded in 1987 as the National Association for Public Interest Law, Equal Justice Works is committed to expanding public interest law career opportunities by mitigating the high cost of law school education’s effects on public service.

Pacific McGeorge was in the vanguard of law schools to establish Loan Repayment Assistance Program in the early 1990’s. Its LRAP program continues to flourish, but the full implementation of the new federal law promises even more help for loan students with federal loan debt.
