After more than three decades of service in legal education as a professor and law school administrator, Professor Downs became the Assistant Dean for Library and Research Services at the Gordon D. Schaber Law Library in 2009. Most recently, he was the Director of the Law Library at Florida International University and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Miami law school. From 1983 to 2004, he was a member of the faculty at the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, also serving as Director of the Law Library, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and other administrative capacities. Downs began his career in legal education at Valparaiso University and during his career has taught a variety of courses, including Property and European Union Law. He is a co-author of The Process of Legal Research (7 th ed. Aspen 2008).
