USAID Program Launched
USAID Program Launched with December Meeting in Hangzhou, China
The USAID “Rule of Law in China” initiative launched with a very successful three-day planning meeting in Hangzhou, China last December.
The meeting was attended by representatives from all the partner schools, including:
- Hu Zuguang, President of Zhejiang Gongshang University
- Dean Qingjiang Kong of the ZGU Law School
- Professors Peng Shi Zhong and Shi Wen Zhou from South China University of Technology
- Professor He Xiaodan Wang from China University for Politics and Law
- Brian Landsberg, Clemence George and George Harris from Pacific McGeorge
- Elliott Milstein, Susan Bennett, and Robert Dinerstein from American University Washington College of Law.
Representatives from other institutions also attended, including Skip Kissinger from USAID, Ronald Cheng from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, Gu Yun from the American consulate in Shanghai, and Professor Wu Yuzhang from the China Academy of Social Sciences.
At this initial meeting the representatives of the Chinese law schools described their current programs and Chinese legal education. The Pacific McGeorge and Washington College of Law professors described their advocacy and clinical programs.
The meeting also featured a welcoming speech by the President of Zhejiang Gongshang University and speeches by Professor Li Guoguang, Vice-President of the Chinese Supreme Court and Professor Kong Xiangjun, a Justice of the Chinese Supreme Court.
