USAID Awards Pacific McGeorge Grant to Enhance the Rule of Law in China

University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law was awarded a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist China in the creation of skills-based legal education programs that focus on the application of law in practice.

China has embarked on an ambitious program to rebuild its legal system and has adopted new laws addressing a wide range of modern issues. If the "rule of law" is to take hold in China, the development of more experiential learning is essential to facilitate the practical application of such newly adopted legal provisions.

This USAID program supports China’s efforts and is a partnership of American and Chinese law schools, which, collaboratively, will enhance the capacity of Chinese law schools to train students in advocacy skills and clinical legal services.

Organized by University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, the initiative includes as partner schools:

American University's Washington College of Law

Zhejiang Gongshang University College of Law (Hangzhou)

South China University of Technology (Guangzhou)

subject to USAID approval:

China University of Political Science and Law (Beijing)
