Brian G. Lau

Senior Commission Counsel, California Fair Political Practices Commission


Brian G. Lau is a Senior Commission Counsel with the California Fair Political Practices Commission. As staff counsel in the Commission’s Legal Division since 2006, he advises the Commission on all aspects of the Political Reform Act. Additionally, he has authored and assisted in the drafting of many Commission regulations, including its conflict-of-interest provisions and revolving door rules, and provides assistance to state and local officials regarding both the Political Reform Act and contracting restrictions under Government Code Section 1090.

Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Lau practiced transactional real estate law for the United States Small Business Administration specializing in disaster relief loans.

Mr. Lau received his law degree from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, with distinction. While in law school, he interned with the Department of Water Resources focusing on administrative and environmental law. He earned his Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from California State University, Chico.
