Full Profile

Andrei Behdjet '97 loves the Company that he works for and the job that he does. "I get to work with some of the finest business minds in the oil and gas industry and with some of the best and brightest legal talents. The range and complexity of the issues that cross my desk vary greatly, and each is engaging in its own way, but I consider myself most successful when I am able to help advance the Company's business strategies and objectives." With a Bachelor of Science in business and finance from Sacramento State University (1994), Behdjet enjoys partnering with his business colleagues. "So much of what we do as a business at Chevron is tied to the law.  And so much of the day-to-day value of being an in-house counsel is in understanding what our leaders want to accomplish and how we can ethically and legally meet those goals."

Behdjet recalls that he considered the legal profession when he was very young. "Growing up, my family had friends who were lawyers and judges, and these individuals always struck me as confident and articulate."

When Behdjet began considering law schools, he was already living in Sacramento and had heard good things about University of the Pacific and McGeorge. "I wanted a legal education grounded in practical - not just theoretical - outlook."

He applied and was accepted to McGeorge and realized early on that he was receiving a high quality education. "I really felt the curriculum took a very practical and focused approach.  Some of the clinic work we did helped us to become 'good' at being lawyers even before we finished law school."

Behdjet's legal career actually began when he was a student. "I clerked for a small, four-member firm in Lodi while I was a student at McGeorge and I stayed there after graduation. This firm exposed me to all sorts of clients with all sorts of issues.  I worked on bankruptcy and real estate matters, civil litigation including personal injury claims, and contracts.  I learned how to represent a client, how to size up risk, when to negotiate and when to litigate. When you represent a client who counts on you on a very personal level, you come to appreciate how significant the practice of law can be and what a difference you can make in someone's life."

Behdjet also appreciates the large and growing network of McGeorge alumni. "Everywhere I have worked, I have worked with McGeorge grads. They have impressed me as smart, practical and hard-working practitioners who care about and advocate for the school, students and alumni."

As for Behdjet's career, he plans to continue to use his legal expertise and business knowledge to advance Chevron's initiatives. "I really enjoy the oil and gas industry, and the fact that Chevron is a great company that does business the right way all over the world. I can't think of a better job."
