Alumni Association Strategic Planning

2012-2013 Goals

Planning Committee

  1. Ensure a productive and effective Alumni Board
  2. Ensure communication among Alumni Board members, current students, McGeorge alumni, and McGeorge staff
  3. Develop consistent approach to filling Board vacancies
  4. Ensure Alumni Board By-Laws support the Planning Committee's mission

Alumni Programs

  1. Work with the CDO to implement regional mock interviews
  2. Research what the committee can to do support the CDO in mandating student visits to the CDO
  3. Assist with distribution of CDO resume books
  4. Assist the CDO and Alumni Office staff in redesigning the Dine with Alumni and Career Search Saturday events
  5. Continue regular visits to classrooms four times a year
  6. Enhance connection between Alumni Board and specialty student groups
  7. Ensure and increase attendance at traditional alumni/student events, with goal of expanding alumni attendance beyond Alumni Board members
  8. esearch and develop strategies for specified communication for the various chapter regions
  9. Create a New Chapter "how to" template
  10. Create a plan for chapters to help students and recent graduates with job placement.

Development Committee

  1. 100% giving
  2. Support Student Philanthropy and Engagement Program
  3. Work with the new major gifts officer to identify potential major gift donors

Board Planning

  1. Create new board charge to replace old bylaws
  2. Articulate optimum board profile for recruitment
  3. Formalize board succession planning process

Bridge to Practice
Build this program by developing robust regional chapters to accomplish the following goals.

  1. Student Recruitment
    1. Support student recruitment efforts and work with admissions office to matriculate the best students to McGeorge
  2. Student Professional Development
    1. Assist alumni and Career Development Office in helping student target their geographic region and develop legal specialization preferences, through activities such as mentoring, alumni/student functions and related activities
  3. Career Opportunities and Support
    1. Create plan for optimizing communication efforts with alumni in identifying field placement and summer work opportunities, specialized mentorships matches, professional development and networking opportunities, and job postings for students focused on geographic regions and legal markets

  2. Support Student Philanthropy and Engagement Program
  3. dentify leadership and major gift prospects and work with staff to qualify and solicit top prospects
