Passports/Visas
A passport is a document issued by your government allowing you to travel abroad. A visa is a permit issued by the government you are planning to visit allowing you to enter that country. Passports and visas are the responsibility of the student. United States citizens can obtain a passport application from the nearest
U.S. Department of State Passport Office or from certain State and Federal courts and post offices. If you lose your passport while in Guatemala, contact the nearest
U.S. embassy immediately.
United States students and citizens do not need a visa to enter Guatemala. To avoid any delay in obtaining your passport, be sure to apply as early as possible. See the latest advisory from the
U.S. State Department about travel to Guatemala. Once in Guatemala, for your own protection you will be required to register your whereabouts with the U.S. Embassy.
Travel Medical Insurance
Although travel medical insurance is not required to participate in the Guatemala program, students should check their medical insurance plans to see if coverage extends while away from home. If your plan does not cover illness or emergencies while traveling outside of your country, you are strongly encouraged to purchase temporary medical insurance for non-emergency and emergency medical expenses, including coverage for emergency air transportation, which is usually quite costly. To request more information about student medical insurance policies, contact the Graduate and International Programs office of the Centers of Distinction.
Pacific McGeorge reserves the right to make changes in course offerings, professors, class schedules, housing, and other matters as circumstances require. In the event of a cancellation because of insufficient enrollment, sudden unavailability of facilities, or any other unforeseen circumstances, Pacific McGeorge will immediately send notice of cancellation to all registered students and refund all fees paid to the school as of the date of cancellation.
Accommodations and Other Policies
Every effort is made to accommodate persons with physical, medical and/or learning disabilities; however, Antigua is a preserved colonial city with cobblestone streets and many steps. Pacific McGeorge cannot ensure that the housing and classroom facilities used in the Guatemala summer program will meet the same standards for accessibility as do the facilities of the school's campus in Sacramento. Persons with disabilities that affect mobility should particularly note that historic Latin American cities such as Antigua present significant barriers to mobility over which Pacific McGeorge has no control.
