International Study

Summer Program in Salzburg, Austria
Pacific McGeorge was one of the first schools in the United States to offer overseas programs in International Law. For the twenty-first consecutive year, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy will teach a course on Fundamental Rights in Europe and the United States at the Salzburg Summer Program on International Legal Studies.
Through its long-standing relationship with the University of Salzburg, Pacific McGeorge offers programs abroad for J.D. and LL.M. candidates alike, including an innovative LL.M. in Transnational Business Practice.
Pacific McGeorge sponsors a bilingual summer program in Guatemala as part of its innovative Inter-American program designed to graduate lawyers who are competent to work with countries in Latin America or with the Latino community in the United States. Most study abroad programs offered by U.S. law schools, including those in Latin America, teach principally international or U.S. courses in English.
The Inter-American Summer program offered by Pacific McGeorge will include instruction in Spanish and will allow students the opportunity to learn about Latin American laws, study with Guatemalan law students, be taught by a Guatemalan law professor, and complete an externship with a legal institution in Guatemala.
Summer Program in St. Petersburg, Russia
Pacific McGeorge is an official sponsor, along with Cleveland State University, of a summer program in St. Petersburg, Russia, held under the auspices of the University of Arkansas. American and Russian law students participate together in this four-week program.
Semester Abroad Exchange Programs
Add a true international dimension to your J.D. program by participating in a
Semester Abroad Exchange Program, spending a semester of your final year studying law at a university in another country. Pacific McGeorge currently has exchange agreements with six different universities in Europe and Latin America.
All law classes taken at these universities qualify for credit towards your J.D. degree. Some of these universities teach a full array of courses in English; others require proficiency in the local language. Speak with Professor Eric McElwain in Northwest Hall for further information about these semester abroad programs, or send him an
email.
J.D. Certificate in International Legal Studies
Students wishing to specialize in international law while in law school may earn a Certificate in International Legal Studies at the same time as they complete the requirements for their J.D. degrees. The Certificate is earned by completing the required number of credits in academic and experiential courses covering specified subject areas.
Persons with a first degree in law may wish to obtain a specialized LL.M. or J.S.D. degree in one of four subject areas that will better prepare them to practice in a global economy. These programs are open to law graduates from both the United States and other countries.
