Erika Gonzalez"The Inter-America Program in Guatemala was an amazing and fulfilling experience. For three weeks in the summer, you get to learn about issues directly affecting Guatemalans in a beautiful colonial town. Studying with Guatemalan lawyers and students and being able to compare their experiences gave us an opportunity to see how the difference between our laws directly affect the country's citizens. Prof. Aladana does a great job in making sure that in three weeks you get to experience Guatemalan culture and law. I wish I had time to go again!" — Pacific Mcgeorge '12 Program participation:

Marianna Dietrich"I highly recommend the Inter-American program to anyone. Not only is the setting of the program a literal paradise, but the challenge and reward of taking law classes in Spanish is invaluable. My bilingual externship with the United Nations Development Program opened my eyes to a world very few people are lucky enough to experience and created a desire to solve problems that I had never before given serious thought. In a world where we are increasingly interconnected, this transformative program is an asset to any legal education." — Pacific Mcgeorge '12 Marianna would like to pursue a career in international law focusing on business and the environment. Bret Sachter"The experience of studying law as it is directly tied to Guatemala, within a classroom of Guatemalan law students, was immensely rewarding. I believe the biggest benefit I got from the Inter-American program was honing the skill of dealing with challenging responsibilities and learning at a concentrated rate all while being fully out of my element. I believe that for anybody, experiences such as this will improve one's approach to law school, the career that follows and well beyond." — Seattle University '12 Bret has been interning at a law office which deals primarily with immigration cases from Latin America. He plans to continue working in the area of immigration law. Program participation:

Anup Bharadwaj"I was fortunate to be able to witness, in the vigorous in-class discussions, the passion and drive of the students studying law in Guatemala. Although the legal education system is structured differently than that in the states, the difference lies in the form and not just the substance. I enjoyed myself immensely interacting with the Landivar law students and just experiencing the essence of Guatemala through its people, food, language and music." — Pacific McGeorge '12 Anup plans to work in the field of international business and international women's rights. Juan Manuel de la Cruz Estrada"The program introduced me to a whole new way of understanding how trade and the economy influence the lives of people in my country and how their lives could be improved if trade is accompanied by sustainable development goals and respect for human rights. I made great friends both local and foreign and gathered tools that will me help others in my country" — Landivar '11 Juan worked in the Victim's Representatives team that litigated the Chitay Nech vs. Guatemala case. It introduced me to an area of law I was unaware existed, it gave me a chance to experience a class with highly qualified professionals and it gave me an insight on the fascinating way law is practiced in the United States.
