Bar Preparation and Mentoring

Each semester, Pacific McGeorge offers a 10-week, two-unit elective course called Practical and Persuasive Legal Writing. This course is designed to help prepare graduating students for the upcoming bar exam, and is offered as a precursor to a post-graduation commercial bar review course.

Students in Practical and Persuasive Legal Writing write actual past California Bar Exam essays and performance tests and receive extensive feedback on their answers. The course sections are taught by Professor Lee and a team of accomplished California attorneys: Karen Bettencourt, Laura Enderton, Kimberly Granger, and Wanda Hill Rouzan. Neil Gieleghem, a McGeorge alumnus, ex-bar grader, and experienced bar tutor from Los Angeles, is a guest lecturer and the author of Practical & Persuasive Legal Writing Course Materials (available for about $20 in the McGeorge Bookstore). Another guest lecturer is an expert on the MBE (bar exam multiple choice questions).

Fall 2011 PPLW Syllabus

In the spring semester, Pacific McGeorge also offers the no-cost Early Bird Bar Review Program. This free, substantive series of lectures is offered to students in their final year of study, and is meant to supplement a post-graduation commercial bar review course.

2011 Early Bird Schedule

Professor Lee is also available to provide individualized counseling to students who are studying to pass the California Bar Examination, whether they are taking it for the first time or trying again.
