"I found this to be a great placement for enhancing my writing as well as researching skills. The work was challenging, the environment was pleasant and I overall enjoyed the experience."

"Very interesting and stimulating. It made me realize I definitely want to go into tax law."

"I found it to be extremely exciting. I’d never been in court before for anything other than to observe, but here I had real clients in front of a real judge. I got yelled at a bit, but that’s okay because it’s part of the learning process. I would highly recommend it to anyone, simply for the live courtroom experience. This is how students become lawyers."

"It provided me a hands-on experience in the criminal justice system with client interviews, arguing motions, negotiating with the D.A., writing trial transfer memos and investigation requests. A real work experience."

"Very stimulating – always on the go. The detention hearings did get a little repetitive, but the cases always changed which made it very interesting. You will learn the job within a week because you have no choice. They throw you in right away which really helps to develop quick thinking."

"I was allowed to work very independently and make decisions using my own judgment and discretion; however, it never felt like I could not ask for help."

"It is a positive experience that increases a student’s skills and knowledge while simultaneously increasing the student’s confidence and level of comfort because of its positive environment."

Internships are especially valuable in today’s difficult employment market because they give a student the chance to demonstrate interest in a particular field, to gain actual experience in that field, and to form relationships that may help the student. Our Career Development Office puts it this way: "An internship is a fourteen-week long opportunity to develop contacts in your chosen practice area. Internships may lead directly or indirectly to job offers, and at a minimum add significant value to your resume."

Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker adds her support to the Off-Campus Clinical Program as follows: "An internship experience is invaluable, no matter your academic success or career objective. There is simply no better way to enhance classroom learning, demonstrate your ability to future employers, and just enjoy practicing law."
